SNOW

WHITE

Snow White and the Seven Dwarves are part of a larger body of works entitled “Punching Cattle on a Jackrabbit”.

- Véronique Côté

The Punching Cattle works are sketches of American culture as viewed by a foreigner, for whom the mixture of traditionalism, corporate dominion, religious indoctrination and pop culture that shape American heritage is a truly surreal experience.

Just as fairy tales, America has the ability to be wondrous, beautiful, scary and ridiculous all at the same time. It is a mix-and-match of the cultures that shape it, often superficial or ethnocentric, but always as colorful as a granny square blanket.

Set in her pink surroundings, Snow White doesn’t bite in a poisoned apple; she devours the birds that flock around her. Her seven dwarf friends are denuded and made up as Mexican Luchadores, Mini-Estrellas, somehow ridiculed and out of context.
